More than any other artist of
popular culture, Madonna's fashions through the years invite her legions
of fans to
"dress up" in her many incarnations. So, what's a material girl
to do when the diva of all makeovers decides to go on tour and calls the
tour re-invention no less? Well, get out the lace, conebras, henna tattoos
and cowgirl gear and get ready to Vogue!
Since her first concerts in 1985, Madonna has brought out the sincerest
form of flattery naturally in her fans. In fact, the term "wanna-bes"
came from Madonna's first concert tour in Seattle, Washington where girls
of all ages dressed up like their idol. The fashions have changed over the
years, but the desire to mimic them has not. Even on 2001's Drowned World
Tour, fans could be found in Music pimp gear, cowboy hats, and tartan
plaids to adopt her unique stage look.
So, now that tour time is once again upon us, what is is that fans will be
wearing to the shows? What is the hardest and easiest thing to recreate?
The Everybody Fan Club helps you along the way with choices and ideas.
Here are some of the easiest looks to dress up as -
Easiest Looks
80's Madonna - Now that the 80's are making a comeback, it's easy to find
new wave jewelry, pearls and bracelets. A bustier at Victoria's Secret
with an 80's skirt from a thrift store will complete the look.
Tracksuit Madonna - This one's almost too easy, with tracksuits and sets
all the rage now in department stores. Pick blues and oranges and you're
good to go!
Evita Madonna - Even though it doesn't seem like it, the Evita look is
easy to recreate in thrift stores. Get a fancy dress, fur stole, elaborate
hat, and pull your hair back. Voila!
Cowgirl Madonna - Cowboy hats, sexy boots
and jeans are easy enough to find at your local western wear store. Buy a
tiara at Claire's jewelry to make it uniquely Madonna!
American Life Madonna - Military gear stores abound with treasures to get
like Madonna does in her banned video. A seargent's hat would be a good
find!
Express
Yourself Madonna - With a manly suit and lacy bra underneath, you're
almost halfway there to having this look down. A blonde wig, (if you don't
already have the hair), and a homemade monocle will set you apart from the
crowd. Express Yourself!
Breathless Madonna - A slinky black gown, (teen stores are good) and
blonde curly wig with optional stole amost cement you as Breathless! Now,
go and strike a pose!
Madonna's many French looks - Once you get the black beret you can do
anything in her post '92 era including Bad Girl and Body of Evidence or
opt to use it to go head-on with American Life. It's fully functional!
Take A Bow Look - Once you get the cool hat she had on the rest is easy. A
tight bodice and short skirt and you will have your very own hunky
matador!
American Pie Look - There's that tiara again, and combined with a cute top
and jeans, it's one of the easiest looks to do!
Drowned
World Tour Look - Those tartan plaids ended up everywhere and now you can
get ripped black shirts pretty cheap. Combine the two and a little bit of
attitude!
Those are the easy ones. But what about some
of the hardest. Here they are - in no particular order -
1. Nothing Really Matters outfit
2. Human Nature outfit
3. Open Your Heart bustier
4. Blond Ambition bustier and suit (check Nicole's page for tips on this
one)
5. Material Girl outfit (cheat and buy this outfit here)
6. La Isla Bonita dress
7. Anything from the Who's That Girl? movie
8. The Frozen outfit
9. Madonna's ROL look
10. Madonna's Hollywood look
11. The Erotica outfit
12. Everything in the Fever video!
13. Desperately Seeking Susan (unless you can find the jacket on eBay!)
Unless you have a special stylist or someone to make these clothes for
you, they will be hard to pull off. But, keep in mind, effort is
everything so trying gets good marks in our book. Now, to learn from the
masters, cruise on over to our impersonators gallery. Click here to see

stuff!
Ok, so you don't want to necessarily look
like Madonna, but you still want to show that you have got style! What are
some ways to subtly stand out from the crowd? Here are our ideas -
1. Old Tour shirts - Yep, dust off that Virgin Tour shirt or even those
gorgeous red Drowned World shirts and show your solidarity with your
favorite tour. The great thing about these shirts is they show the world
you have seen Mo before. Even better if you have a jacket!
2. Madonna T-shirts - Or if you have a favorite Madonna tee, here is the
place to show people what you got. All fans have pretty big collections of
shirts - whether professionally made, shirts from movies, or your own
homemade style. If you want to support a fan club, (like the Everybody Fan
Club ;)), that's a way to go to. The great thing is that it can be your
own individual statement and yet be comfortable enough to dance in!
3. Club Clothes - Imitate Madonna in that she always looks good on the
dance floor and go buy your fave current club clothes - teen stores or
funky shops have plenty to offer and you'll be "sizzling" when
you see her.
4. Dress Up - Make Madonna proud as you toast this event in an outfit fit
for a princess (or prince). Tux and tails, (very Hollywood!) and gorgeous
dresses make this a night to remember, (especially if you are going with a
paramour).
5. Accesssorize - If nothing else, common Madonna accessories will do the
trick and put you in the winners circle. Consider those rubber bracelets
or a cruficix or two. Maybe put a blond streak in your hair. Definitely
consider a homemade laminate showing how much you are a fan. (Everybody
Fan Club laminates to print out and wear are available here)
These are all ways to make a Madonna concert memorable in more ways than
one. By the clothes you wear, you can make a statement, just like Madonna!
Don't just stand there, let's get to it, strike a pose, there's nothing to
it, Vogue!
